Acid reflux disease symptoms commonly present themselves during sleep because of our sleeping positions. During sleep, we are lying down and our muscles are more relaxed, including the lower esophageal sphincter. Therefore, stomach acid can more easily flow up into the esophagus. These two circumstances can easily lead to heartburn and other Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) symptoms.
Wedge Pillows
Acid reflux pillows, also called “wedge pillows,” are a non-invasive treatment for nighttime GERD symptoms. They are specially designed pillows in the shape of a wedge that raises the top of the head by approximately half a foot, while gradually inclining downwards towards the shoulder area. This elevation works in tandem with gravity to keep stomach acid out of the esophagus. Contrary to some beliefs, you do not need to sleep on your back for a wedge pillow to be effective.
Bed Slants
Bed slants work under the same principle as wedge pillows in reducing GERD symptoms, in that physical positioning and gravity lessens the chances of acid reflux and heartburn.
However, bed slants and wedge pillows differ in that bed slants offer a more gradual elevation of the upper torso area, whereas wedge pillows more directly affect the head and neck area. For this reason, many people have found bed slants to be more comfortable and subtle.
A popular method of slanting a bed is by inserting an inflatable mattress lifter between the box spring and mattress. It is suggested that foam mattresses be used, as inclined spring mattresses tend to break and cause back pains.

Simple Solution
correcting acid reflux
To fix the problem, put the head of your bed about three inches above the foot of the bed. Gradually work up to six inches (raise one inch per month). Just put some blocks of wood under the head.
