What is Acid Reflux?

Acid reflux is sometimes called Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or indigestion, although it is more commonly known as heartburn. Acid reflux is the result of stomach acid that is expelled from the stomach cavity upwards into the esophagus. This backward flow is the rationale behind the “reflux” part of the name.

Anxiety and Acid Reflux

Anxiety can make Acid Reflux Return

For a long time now there have been suspected links between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and anxiety, stress, and nervousness. Could these emotional conditions really cause acid reflux, or is it the other way around, where acid reflux causes anxiety?

Acid Reflux while Sleeping

Acid Reflux while Sleeping Position is very Important

Acid reflux disease symptoms commonly present themselves during sleep because of our sleeping positions. During sleep, we are lying down and our muscles are more relaxed, including the lower esophageal sphincter. Therefore, stomach acid can more easily flow up into the esophagus. These two circumstances can easily lead to heartburn and other Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) symptoms.
